The best privacy-focused AI service I've found. I use it daily.
NanoGPT is my go-to for cloud-based private AI. Pay-per-prompt pricing (about $3-5/month for casual users), strict no-logging policy, crypto payments, and access to GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, and more from one account. I switched from ChatGPT Plus and save money while getting better privacy.
What NanoGPT Is
The short version: NanoGPT is a pay-per-prompt AI service. You get access to GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, and more without a monthly subscription or conversation logging.
NanoGPT is a pay-per-prompt AI service. You pay for the tokens you use, not a monthly subscription. It gives you access to GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Llama, all from one account. No email required for basic use. Crypto payments accepted. I discovered it when looking for a ChatGPT alternative that doesn't log everything.
What I Like
No Account Needed
Show up and start using AI. No email, no signup form, no personal info. I love this.
Pay-Per-Prompt
Only pay for what you use. No monthly subscriptions eating your bank account.
Crypto Payments
Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. Anonymous payments, no credit card trail.
Multiple Models
GPT-4, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Gemini 1.5 Pro, DeepSeek V3, Llama 3.1. All accessible from one interface. I switch between models depending on the task.
Strict No-Logging
Prompts and responses are never saved, never logged, never used for training. I verified this myself.
OpenAI-Compatible API
Works with SillyTavern, Python scripts, and any tool that supports the OpenAI API format.
Pricing
The short version: Casual users spend $3-5/month, moderate users $8-15/month. That's $60-210/year less than ChatGPT Plus, and you get all models.
NanoGPT charges per token. A typical prompt costs $0.001 to $0.05 depending on the model and length. Casual users spend $3-5/month. Moderate users spend $8-15/month. Compare that to $20/month for ChatGPT Plus. I switched and my bill dropped by about 70%.
| Usage Level | NanoGPT Cost | ChatGPT Plus | Savings/Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casual (5-10/day) | $3-5/mo | $20/mo | $180-210 |
| Moderate (20-50/day) | $8-15/mo | $20/mo | $60-144 |
| Heavy (100+/day) | $20-40/mo | $20/mo | Similar, but all models |
What I Don't Like
- No image generation (DALL-E, Midjourney). Text-only models.
- No mobile app. Web interface only. I mostly use it on desktop anyway.
- The interface is functional but not as polished as ChatGPT's. Gets the job done though.
- No plugin ecosystem or GPT Store equivalent. You don't really need it for privacy-focused use.
Who Should Use NanoGPT
- People who use AI a few times a day, not constantly. If you're a power user, self-hosting might be cheaper.
- Anyone who values privacy and doesn't want conversations logged. This is the main reason I switched.
- Users who want multiple models without paying for 3 subscriptions. I use GPT-4 for coding and Claude for writing.
- Developers who need an API for scripts and tools. The OpenAI-compatible format makes this easy.
- Creative writers using SillyTavern. Works great for that.
